As they discover the practices of IRCAM, the protagonists from Grand Magasin upset serious technology of a research institute.

Grand Magasin"For every solution, there is a problem." A miniature theater of technology has been built on this article of faith. Three demonstrators present a series of appliances that make sounds that interrupt the performance. The idea behind Déplacements du problème was to put a company that "makes theater with nothing" in contact with IRCAM's high-tech tools.

Häxan, la sorcellerie à travers les âgesA sundry mix of historical reconstructions and sequences from an uninhibited imagination, the film Häxan is both an inquiry into 15th century ideology and a pamphlet against obscurantism and superstitions with an aesthetic close to that of Goya and Rodolphe Bresdin, engraver and Odilon Redon's teacher.

From the imaginings of Aaron Einbond on images of science to the Baroque rhetoric reread by Fernanado Villanueva Carretero to the low tech DIY in With my limbs in the dark, one single idea, that of testing computer systems that become an organic part of the intended music. This idea is also found in the work by Paul Clift and the choreographer Alban Richard where a system of sound diffusion is attached to the dancer's body and to the bodies of the musical instruments.

Hypermusic Episode II : décor et mise en scène

He is fascinated by the research carried out at Harvard University on cosmological models, string theory, and quantum physics. She is captivated by opera and confides her wishes to write a libretto on current advances and prospective theories in astrophysics.

Together, they imagine Hypermusic Prologue a new type of staged performance that embraces the worlds of art and science. Matthew Ritchie, whose visual oeuvre endeavors to alter finite media, quickly became a part of this unrivaled artistic venture.

This 'Projective Opera' seeks to send us beyond the known boundaries of the universe, its creation, its matter, and its energy. This exploration takes the form of a dialogue between two solo voices that feel the tautness between the finite and the infinite (hyperspace), between the experience of now and the temptation to know new dimensions of being and time.

Organ Concert

Two imposing works for modern organ, dissimilar in every way, set the tone for this evening at Saint-Eustache.

The sound continuum intrinsically linked to the instrument and the hand of the musician determines the effects of speed and surface in the work by Ligeti. The total indifference to the specificity of the organ, to the limits of the instrument or the performer, pulverize all references in Xenakis's work Gmeeoorh. The title of Xenakis's work is a free anagram of "organon": the score for that work was originally written on several staffs for each keyboard, multiplying harmonic overlaps, trees, distortions, expansions.

Flanked by these antinomic adventures of the 20th century are two premieres by young composers, organists themselves. The short liturgy by Philipp Maintz preserves the fresh nature of the nocturnal improvisations at Saint-Eustache. Vox Humana by Hyun-Hwa Cho (musical creation) and Raphaël Thibault (video creation), transmuted to a historic instrument and a gargantuan contemporary synthesizer, made even larger through electronic additive synthesis. The manifestation of the voice surges forth from the ancient organ playing.

Scènes noires. Portrait Guerrero

The Spanish composer Alberto Posadas, student and heir of the genius Francisco Guerrero, 'interprets' four late works by Goya, the famous Black Paintings that could be seen on the walls of the "Deaf Man's Villa" near Madrid.

Atropos, Saturn, The Dog, and Fight with Cudgels become orchestral material surrendered to spatialization and electronic interventions that submerge the listener. The Colombian artist Carlos Franklin has created a frieze-like video, placed above the instrumental ensemble. This project features close ups on the music and video via the gripping geography of Goya's paintings, such as a figure violently deformed or the emptiness of a surface that absorbs the entire pictorial space.
