The strategy used by Berio in his work Formazioni is to modify the hierarchy of the orchestra by physically moving the musicians, creating a new configuration on stage. In his work livre des illusions, Bruno Mantovani has modified the hierarchy of the orchestra by moving the musicians virtually, processing the sound in real-time with electronics. In 1913, Webern shattered the acoustic image of the orchestra by concentrating on the virgin power of timbre in an aphoristic form. The first meeting of IRCAM and the Orchestre de Paris transforms the sonorous order of the traditional formation.
This evening's premiere, the work by Bruno Mantovani, imagines parallels between the orchestral textures and those of the chemistry of taste of Ferran Adrià, the inventor of molecular cuisine. This orchestral composite in thirty-five movements with evocative titles (grapefruit risotto, escargot dip, beetroot meringues, polenta gnocchi) takes the formal stance in the broadest diversity.
